Torch Lightup![]() |
Herb Rice, designed torches that were distributed to school children as far away as Saskatchewan. Many of these children and their parents came to celebrate at the Maritime Centre in Cowichan Bay. Herb related the ancient tale Raven Brings Light to the World. He picked volunteers from the audience to participate by donning the costumes he had created for the story, playing the drum and singing. There were over two hundred people in attendance. The Maritime Centre provided hot dogs and Hot chocolate which were very much appreciated. | ||

By the time Herb’s story was finished it was dark outside. The story concluded with a parade around the perimeter of the audience. The children lit their torches, held them high and ran round and round the audience while the parents and adults clapped in adulation. | ![]() | The evening finished off with a performance by Canadiana singer Michael Mitchell. He too encouraged audience participation. And a fine time was had by all! |
